Dominic Toretto drove a Mazda RX-7 in the film The Fast And The Furious, I just recently found this out, the guy who gave me a few stats on some of the cars I was seeking didn't have everything on this particular vechile so I figured why not ask here. What he did give me was quite helpful though.
Make: Mazda Model: RX-7 Year: Horsepower: 486(575 with nitrous) 0-60: 4.9 Seconds 0-100: Quarter Mile: 12.21 Seconds Color: Red Bodykit: VeilSide Body Kit Tires: 18" Toyo Tires Rims: VeilSide Rims Speakers: Engine: 1.3 Liters Twin rotor rotary engine Engine Modifications: T78 Turbocharger "Sneaky Pete" under-seat nitrous system Front End Modifcations: Rear End Modifications: VeilSide Rear Wing
All I really need on this one is the year, the 0-100 would be nice to, whatever you guys can get ASAP. [Reply]

I'm surprised at the Hp #'s , thats not really a lot. An Mk4 Supra can do about 100+ more than that on just the STOCK turbo's:-)
According to TFAFT website the '95 Toyota Supra Turbo has 650 HP, if it took two shots of NOS(which I hear can be up to 100 HP per shot, i'm no car expert i'm just theorizing) then what I read on this other site about the '69 Charger having approximately 900 HP is true but that thing was purely stock no SC's or TC's. Right you are, but you have to factor in the weight of the car plus the rpm's. So the weight of the RX-7 is lighter and it takes less power to push it as fast as it needs. The supra is much lighter than the Charger helping it get that extra speed. [Reply]

Which is because the Charger's body is mostly made of metal unlike the RX-7 or the Supra which are somewhat metal but not mainly as old cars such as the Charger. I think the reason Car Co.'s starting mixing other materials with the metal was to reduce dents as well the cost of making the car and to preserve a natural resource(in this case metal).
Just my theory though, for all I know they could be doing it for some other completely unknown reason. [Reply]

Whatya mean STOCK:-) That thing has a BIG ASS blower on it........:-) Looked like about a 14/71.
The Mk4 Supra can put 650 on the ground with just the turbo's , I used to street-race with an old Japanese guy that had one all maxxed out like that.
NOS can be shot as high as ya want , I've seen kits for sale in excess of a 175 shot. [Reply]

Yes there was a blower, but if he had it on it would of made a sound man and I didn't hear anything other than the engine itself.
If you've seen Mad Max you know how loud a Blower is, and what it sounds like. [Reply]

But man, a blower also has to be turned on in order to operate, we didn't see Dom flip any switches or press any buttons now did we? Some blowers are just for looks. [Reply]

how is 486 not a lot of power? that amount is very hard to obtain. and there's something not right about those times. my rx-7 goes 0-60 in 4 flat and it doesn't even have a t-78. the quarter mile should be damn near 11 seconds flat for that amount of power to the wheels. i think you should check your sources cuz something's not right. [Reply]
you guys are all talking about these cars like they are fully legit.
i was one of the docking movers for the car show here in los Angeles back in 2002 not to mention i did some race scenes with my cars in the new movie coming out soon called Quattro Noza, i promote this movie as well as participated in many of the race scenes.
i moved the infamous RX7 from fast and the faries that u are all posting about, it is a decent car but it was mostly show.
it has mods but really nothing serious, many of my friends and myself have 2nd gen Turbo2's with smaller turbos that could smoke the crap out of that 3rd gen.
it's not really what they made it to be in the movie. i drove it round the lot b4 we posed it for show, its strong and its quick but nothing to drool over.

WRONG.....don't know much about superchargers do you...? They run ALL the time. The supercharger as shown in MAD MAX does not exist. Thats something they made up for the movie , basically using an A/C clutch on a regular 6/71 supercharger. No way that would work on a bigger model , theres too much force required to turn them.
One car that DOES have a supercharger like that is the 1st gen MR2 , from 1986. Its a very small S/C that uses an A/C type clutch to disengage when its not needed. It was the only car to use such a device , and there was a few problems with them , which is why the 2nd gen MR2 was turbo.......:-) [Reply]

486 is not that much power. about average for average mods , I'd say.
Ever seen an RB26DETT with 1000+ HP?? Not really hard to obtain either.
If you don't know what you are doing , yes , horsepower is hard to get.
The reason your car is SO fast to 60 mph is BECAUSE it doesn't have that huge T-78 on there. You don't have nearly the lag that thing does. Turbo's that big are for top end power only. [Reply]

What he said. These cars were all just a bunch of hype. Something that always bothered me is how they show the crappiest turbo Eclipse ever made (the GS-T) keeping up with an RX7. Sorry , not in the real world....:finger: Maybe a GSX (AWD) with a ton of mods , but not a GS-T. The white EVO shoulda smoked it by a mile..... [Reply]
