I'm designing a bodykit for a BMW M3 (1999-recent). I don't want to twist your opinions yet, so I'm going to delay posting pictures. What would you want your BMW M3 to look like?
I’ve been incredibly busy with another project, but I’m back now.
I’ve cleaned the front bumper, built a little more of the car, and started the sideskirt. I’m going to add a small ‘intake’ at the back of the sideskirt, but you can sort-of see the start.
Nice. It looks kinda like the stock one but its a lot cleaner. id certanly buy it. it looks like it belongs on the car not like other spoliers. [Reply]
I’m sorry I have not been able to update the BMW M3 MOD. I’ll get around to it soon enough. Feel free to check out one of my other projects while you wait. I think this one is pretty good, but I’ll let you all decide for yourselves. Not done yet, but it’ll get there eventually.

Ahh crap you said 99 and up, which was the last production year of the E36 body style, the kind that I have.
The E46 M3s started production in '00 (as '01 model years?) :-) oh well, you should do a kit for E36s. [Reply]
Project Status
If this kit does good enough, I'll port it to a variety of BWM's including older M3’s, and probably M5’s also. I apologize again for the lack of updates, but I have too many projects happening. Working on one project means delaying another. I suppose what is important is that I am being productive regardless of which project I am currently working on. If I get an investor, I’ll have reason to make this first priority…which brings me to the next issue.
Investors
As a side note, I don't have any investors for this project, but everywhere I go I do see an extreme amount of interest in this kit, about 5x what I expected. I am personally amazed at the feedback, even though I practically always get good feedback on my other projects.
If any of you have connections with people who could either produce the body kit, or have extra money, please feel free to forward your connections this way. I always try to remember my friends, so make sure your connection mentions you & a method to contact you.
I do have connections which would allow me to produce the kit myself if I only has some money, but I am also open to the possibility of a stable body-kit company adding this to their product line.
Those pictures are of a different project that is turning out well. I've made numerous changes since those pictures, so it should be even better when it is done. [Reply]
I’ve got a question for you BMW owners that would consider purchasing this kit if/when it is produced. Input from other people is good of course, but if you own a BMW, please indicate that in your response.
Replacement Parts vs. Add-on-top Parts
In context to the bodykit I am producing, would you rather have a piece to add on-top of a preexisting part or a piece to replace the preexisting part. The body-kit itself would be available in carbon fiber.
A potential client stated that BMW owners would rather have add-on-top parts than replacement parts which seemed strange to me. He also described the installation process of add-on-top parts as you glue/screw the new piece to the preexisting one. He said people would rather have add-on-top because that means they keep the kit with them. To me, this seems strange.
Replacement Installation: Remove default piece, add new piece. The default paneling: The default piece remains in perfect condition, and can be stored. Style: Would allow for more flexibility, and would probably appear cleaner overall. Weight Would reduce the weight of the car (being carbon fiber)
Add-on top Installation: Simply screw/glue the new piece on top. The default paneling: The preexisting piece remains on the car. It may receive damage though in the installation process. Style: Would be forced to remain within certain constraints. Weight Would add weight to the car.
In consideration that I would ‘remain true to the default lines and style of the BMW’ (similar to what I have been doing), it seems to me that a replacement part is a much more attractive option unless you are really lazy in which case you wouldn’t MOD your car anyway. [Reply]
