240Z | 260Z| 280Z | 300ZX (Past Z Cars)>350z 6MT transmission - What's the word?
datman55 06:49 PM 10-20-2004
Hey guys - I'm new to this forum so be gentle :-)

I've been trying to find some information on the 6MT used in the 350z (Z33?) Some people seem to have reported some issues with the box, but I have not been able to ascertain what the actual problem is.

I am looking at using the 'box' behind an FJ20 Turbo in my race car, I just need to know if it is going to be up to the task.

Any thoughts or sites that may be useful would be appreciated.

Cheers.

Welcome, man.

I love the tranny in the new Z. Actually...the tranny's used in the Z32 were very good, also...the Z31 is a bit of a row boat, though.

Not sure exactly what you're question was, but yea...there ya go...

Thanks guys....just noted the name of the forum, sorry about that.

The 6 speed box interests me because of the close ratios, realistically I would only use 2nd-6th gears in the race car.

I have had a look on the 350z forum...but couldn't find the info I was really after.....I'll just have to look harder - thanks guys

I Heard The Same Thing. I Had A 350z Performance And After Dogging It Out, One Of My Gears Was Scrapping. I Also Know Some People That Had The Same Problem.

Search around the web for some warranty reports, it may have been an isolated run of cars that were affected if there is a problem, as it was with the camber problem that afflicted the first year.

the new Z uses a softer than previous synchro metal than on the older Zs, its a easy fix but Nissan is to cheap to do a recall and replace them with a stronger synchro. Oh well theres progress for you.

Can stronger Synchro's be purchased and fitted as an upgrade? Is such a thing available?

yes but you have to look around for them, I havent even looked for some becuase I run a AT and a 300ZX. But I am planning on doing a AT swap to the newer 5spd AT from the 350Z.

is this some kind of joke?!?! the three posts that i have read of yours are all just.....i cant think of a word for it right now.

EDIT: also, i read your profile. you live in charlotte, NC and own a 2003 nissan skyline. yeah....ok. let me guess, you were one of the few people that came up with the $100,000+ to give motorex to legalize a r34 before DOT came in and told them that they couldnt legalize anything with a OBDII computer (pretty sure thats what happened). if you have that kind of money in the U.S. i dont think you should be talking like you never passed the 1st grade. not to poke fun or anything. maybe you have a legitimate excuse.
