it really depends on the manufacturer. some tens are much higher quality that some other manuf. twelves. generally 12s hit lower, not harder. you get a more crisp, tight bass hit from a ten (depending on the brand). IMO, tens are better for rock music because i want a tighter hit for drums and bass guitar. i think 12s work better for rap and techno. not to say that 10 wont sound great. but it is pretty much up to you. however you want your system to sound. keep in mind though, that there are limits to what a ten can do and you might want to go with some bigger subs eventually. It's pretty much a common misconception that 12's are more "sloppy" then a ten and can't play as "punchy" It's also a common misconception that a larger sub in a series plays lower. A good designed 10" or 12" should hit the lows just as well as the 15" in the series especially in car. For a single sub setup I usually recomend a fifteen, but at least a 12. A single 10 and usually a sinlge 12 just can't get very loud because of the lack of cone area. [Reply]
"punchyness" and "crispness" are entirely dependent on the box that you use and how well the sub was designed, NOT THE CONE SIZE. A larger cone means you have more potential displacement (more output), and it also means that at the same level of output the sub won't have to move as far (less distortion), that's all it means. but.. it does seem to me from personal experience.. if you use an average recommend box, the bigger the sub the more bottom heavy it is. my 15 sounds like it doesnt hit the higher bass much harder than a 12, but it would murder one as far as low bass output IMO. this is generally a good thing, as long as your midbass woofers dont suck ass.
also, usually woofers in the same line will have the ability get a few hz lower with each size upgrade. [Reply]
I heard my friends' subs before, JL w6's, and Rockford Punch 12" , and the JL one sounded much better...hit more clear and low bass. Rockford one, I don't know why but it kind of was hitting the "cheap sound" I can't really explain...It wasn't as heavy i should say.
I'm planning on getting 2 subs, so I guess 2 12"s would be the best idea?
so whats a good allround subwoofer size? more for proper bass not heavy bass distroying the music.
no offence to anyone that justs like to hear bass and not the song properly. [Reply]
If you would read my post you would see that size has nothing to do with it. I know 18's that can sound fantastic...... and about only hearing bass that's why you need good components. [Reply]
i like the way 2 12s sound over one 15 just by a little.. and only cause i dotn like my subs quite as bottom heavy as most guys (ive never had components to keep up). HOWEVER.. you could prolly get more for your money with one 15.. thats what i did.. didnt have enough for 2 12s. i got a 15 and it pounds. youll have like 2/3 the cone ares as 2 12s. youll definately get a better deal goin with a 15.
and NO dont buy anything from best buy almost everything they have sucks ass.
if 200 is your budget for a sub then get an atlas 15 from ascendant audio or an SE 15 from resonant engineering. also bumpin or NG will prolly recommend somethin from incriminator audio too.. but i dotn know shit about IA [Reply]
i would have to say that if you are getting 2 of the power acoustic 12s for 200 dollars, you are getting a good deal. just dont let best buy install it. i dont' think that most of these guys care for power acoustic. i have heard a lot of them and they are not too bad. they are certainly not up there with some other brands as far as spl and sql, but they are a pretty balance speaker. with the right amp and the right box, they could soud as good as you want them to. [Reply]
you couldnt be more wrong. Power Acoustik is good for the money, but you will have ABSOLUTELY NO SQ. They get loud.....thats it.....they get loud. fart machines, loud, strong, cheap fart machines [Reply]
i admit i dont know too much about the 12s, haven't seen too many. ive seen a bunch of their 10's and they were very clear. but i have also seen a lot of their 15s and they are the opposite, window shattering bass and no sq. i figured the 12s would meet them in the middle. [Reply]
