Car Comparisons>300ZX vs. Supra
dorito_burrito 03:10 PM 05-09-2002
Yo wutsup...
I haven't seen this one on the forums yet...eveybody's sayin that the supra is a rip of the 300zx... others swear by the supra.
The Supra was "the" car in my mind a couple months ago, but then i saw a pretty damn nice 300zx beside a supra at a drag meet near my place... Since the 2 are so simliar in the same market, it's a pretty good competition... the 2 are TT, have a similar HP and torque, and are made in almost the same years... so there we have it... THE BATTLE OF THE 300ZX TT and the SUPRA TT...head to head

This kind of isnt fair but yes they were both compared to...

The Z and the Supdawg are both cows so dont look to them for handling really unless you go aftermarket suspension...but if you had to compare them...I think the Supdawg pulls 0.98 g's stock and the Z does 0.90 stock...

In terms of acceleration...the Supdawg does it in 5.0 seconds to 60 mph while the Z does it in 5.2-5.5 seconds

Quarter mile...again the Supdawg.

Brakes...Supdawg brakes are incredible...most Supra guys dont even upgrade...while the Z only has 11 inch rotors...but decent calipers.

Interior wise...I'd have to give it to the Z...the Supra seats are nice but the dash has received criticism as looking like a Camry. I dont know about that...but that's what "they" say. It's not that bad I think...I have ridden in 3 single turbo Supra's and trust me...it's not that bad. Backseat space I would have to give to the Z though!

Exterior wise...Z hands down...better looker. Maybe it didnt get 17's stock...but at least it didnt have a hideous back end like the Supra.

Engine wise...the Supdawg is the king of the highway top end pulls and can hold up to 500-600hp on stock internals...need I say more? The Z I think can hold 450-500...not sure...but it's a decent guess.

Aftermarket wise...Supdawg takes the edge there...but not that the Z is suffering...it has a good following.

Overall...Supdawg for winning alot of the categories...Z is good...it was first and it won Car and Driver's 10 Best every year made (90-96)...but the Supra took what the Z had and went further and made it's mark as the best Stateside Jap Supercar available.

Hard to admit but I have been and seen fast Z's and fast Supdawg's and when you see a single turbo Supra pull on a 900 bike...you will too want one.

:-)

Both superb cars, but my preference the Supra. However, Z's are around half the price around where I live (NZ), so I'd be buying one of them in the near future instead. :-)

Supra all the way!!:bandit: :smoka: :smoker2: :-) :ylsuper

the 300ZX is great but the supra is just awsome and i love its looks and it definatly beats the 300ZX in performence

just love the supra's cockpit. it wraps around you like a glove. however, the supra also cost alot more then a Z. so fo rthe money i would just buy a Z.

I've never rode in either car, but I've read tons of magazine articles on both cars, and I keep seeing Supras with Skyline engines to get more power. No one ever does an engine swap on 300ZX TTs. I'm pretty sure it could be done, but I haven't seen it yet. So I'm going with the 300ZX. But hey, don't take my word for it, because I'm a little obsessed with the 300ZX TT.

I think you need to read some Japanese mag's man...they swap in everything and anything...just for instances...

Z32's w/SR20DET's (for the better weight distribution and lower weight)
Z32's w/RB25DET's

Z31's w/RB20DET's (called 200ZR's...200HP Inline 6 2.0 Liter Turbo)
Z31's w/VG30DE's (the Z32 NA engine...3.0 Liter 222HP...called 300ZR)

The Z handles so much better than the supra. Although it is almost as heavy, the Z32 has much better weight balance and chassis rigidity.

Even though the Supra is faster, I would choose the Z.

NISSANSPDR, you've showed my ignorance. I knew about the SR20DETs and RB20DETs being put in other cars, but I had no idea they were replacing VG30DETTs with them. I guess I do need to get some car magazines from Japan, or maybe the UK, since I can actually read those.

I prefer the Supra. It is a dateless car, and with a subtle bodykit and a good set of rims, a 10 year old car can look brand new!

I was looking at the 3000GT, 300Z and the Supra awhile back. As you can see, I went with the 3000. I didnt like the feel and handling of the 300Z, but it was fast ride (they all are). The supra ran nice, but it lost out in the looks department. Since the performance was virtually identicle, I chose the VR4 but I would have gone with the Supra next.

WOW, this really is a hard desicion......late 80's I'd take the Supra over the Z...but the newer cars I would have to go with the Z..I think...hmmm. I really like both of these cars!

Do you think Toyota will respond to the 350Z with a new Supra?? I sure hope so, if they start a HP battle, Im gonna hide cause this could get UGLY!
zane11 07:56 AM 07-26-2002
I would take the Z simply because i like the looks better. I know the supra has better performance but id just get work done to my 300zx

And pimpin4profits i think that Toyota will come out with somthin new, there is a forum aobut it on here. I hope they do. And i guess mitsubishi has the evo 7 to compare and mazda has rx8 and subaru has wrx sti.
